Outstanding Collegiate Teaching Achievement

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University professor of piano Dr. Leslie Spotz has garnered recognition as one of the state’s top music instructors by the Texas Music Teachers Association. Spotz recently earned the over 2000-member organization’s 2017 Award for Outstanding Collegiate Teaching Achievement. The award is given for success in music performance, composition, theory, history, or any combination.
Calling the the recognition “a great honor, for which I am deeply appreciative,” Spotz added, “Since I began teaching piano at the collegiate level back in 1981, I can attest to the profound value of the teaching profession. It has been the most gratifying experience for more than 40 years to be a music teacher.”
Not new to accolades, she was also named this year’s College of Liberal and Fine Arts Faculty Excellence in Scholarship Award winner at Tarleton.
Her international performing career spans four decades and four continents including solo performances at Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow University, South Bank Center of London, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the famed Academy of Music in Philadelphia.
Spotz has collaborated with world-renowned instrumentalists and vocalists including soprano Dr. Heather Hawk, another award-winning member of the music faculty at Tarleton.
The TMTA honor includes a $600 cash award.
