STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Young scientists are invited to take part in an afternoon of hands-on geology experiments Sunday, Sept. 24, at Tarleton State University’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas.

The free event takes place from 2 to 3 p.m. for children in third through fifth grades. Participants will discover how geologists search for and find oil in places like West Texas.

Reservations are requested. To reserve your spot, call 254-968-1886 or email [email protected]. One of the experiments will involve the use of candy bars with peanuts. If your child is allergic to peanuts, you might want to bring them to a different free Gordon Center event later this fall.

The W.K. Gordon Center, a museum and research facility, is located at Exit 367 on Interstate 20 between Fort Worth and Abilene in the historic ghost town of Thurber.

The center is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit www.tarleton.edu/gordoncenter or the museum’s Facebook page.
