Tarleton’s Gordon Center to host kids for summer Discovery Day

THURBER, Texas — Tarleton State University’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas is hosting the first of two summer Discovery Days Wednesday, June 27.

Children entering kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to the museum for hands-on science experiments, history and art.

Gordon Center Discovery Day features two sessions – one at 10 a.m. to noon for kindergartners through second graders, and the other from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for third through fifth graders.

The activity lineup features:

• Learning about artifacts and what museums do;
• Creating your own “artifact” with clay; and
• Science experiments about alternative energy.

The event is free and parents are invited to join their kids for the day.

The W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas, a Tarleton museum and research facility located in the historic ghost town of Thurber, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The center is located at Exit 367 on Interstate 20 between Fort Worth and Abilene.
