TAHPERD Names Peak College Administrator of Year

STEPHENVILLE, Texas— A Tarleton State University faculty member has been named state-wide college administrator of the year by a professional association.
Dr. Kayla Peak, associate professor of kinesiology and associate dean of the College of Education, has been named administrator of the year by the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD).
“Dr. Peak has created an environment and culture of enjoyment and collaboration,” said recently retired kinesiology professor Dr. Joe Gillespie. “She possesses an unsettling dismissal for mediocrity, compounding into her immeasurably passionate and relentless pursuit and achievement of excellence.”
Peak was nominated for the award by Lee College Director of Kinesiology Graeme Cox to recognize her leadership in college kinesiology disciplines at the local and state levels, her advocacy for quality education in kinesiology and her significant contributions to curriculum development, technology, innovation, staff development, program improvement, and resource development in kinesiology disciplines.
Prior to becoming associate dean, Peak was head of the Tarleton Department of Kinesiology. She is a former Faculty Fellow in the University’s Center for Instructional Innovation, has been honored with the Texas A&M University System Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and earned Tarleton’s Jack and Louise Arthur Award, recognizing excellence in the classroom in 2011.
Additionally, she was recognized as the TAHPERD University Physical Educator of the Year in 2012. The Texas-based organization is composed of more than 4,500 professional and student members serving education from kindergarten through college.
