Tarletan-Waco Students Launch Endowment Fund
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, April 4, 2017
STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University today launched a campaign for an endowed scholarship to create educational opportunities for students at its Waco center on the campus of McLennan Community College.
“It is important to understand that an endowment is a particularly special piece, a powerful act of service,” said Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio at the ceremonial signing. “It is a gift that keeps on giving and giving and giving for years to come. It’s one thing to give a cash gift that people can use right now, but an endowed scholarship is something that lives on forever, in perpetuity.”
The scholarship is a cornerstone for improving lives, said Clinton Dennard, advisor and program manager of community outreach for Tarleton’s Waco center.
“When you educate people and put them into society, you have a better society,” he said. “It really does help these students. Being able to have this funding is going to do wonders, not just for current students, not just for students in a year or two, but for students all the way through.”
The new scholarship, now accepting donations, was part of Tarleton’s annual 24-hour Day of Giving campaign conducted at all Tarleton sites. The second annual Day of Giving is expected to surpass the $141,000 raised in last year’s event.
