STEPHENVILLE, Texas — A weekend of celebrations centered around Tarleton State University’s new class ring is set for Sept. 18 and 19 on the Stephenville campus.
The unveiling of a statue of the ring at Rudder Way and Texan Trace opens the festivities at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Remarks from Tarleton Alumni Association President Ranae Lane, Director of Alumni Engagement Jessica Evans and university President James Hurley will highlight the ceremony.
“The Tarleton ring is a treasured part of the long-held traditions of the university and its students and alumni,” Hurley said. “It not only represents the hard work needed to earn a degree, but it also signifies its wearer as a part of an elite group foreseen by our founder, John Tarleton, more than 120 years ago.”
The statue is a gift to the university from the Alumni Association. Lane said a ring statue has been TAA’s dream “for a very long time, and we are excited to see our dream become a reality.”
Evans is scheduled to discuss the history and significance of the ring.
“The official ring of Tarleton State University embodies the tradition and promise of Tarleton’s heritage of excellence and achievement since 1899,” she said. “It was designed by a committee composed of alumni and students whose goal was to achieve a unique and meaningful design that would be timeless.”
The weekend features ring presentation ceremonies at 3 and 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, all at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium.
