STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University sets a record for total enrollment for the fifth year in a row with 13,063 students, an increase of 6 percent from last year and up 32 percent from 2011, based on the 12th class day report.
Record fall 2016 enrollment numbers continue to make Tarleton one of the fastest growing public universities in Texas.
Enrollment for first-time-in-college students is the highest in university history with 2,169 students. Hispanic enrollment is up 14 percent with 2,388 students, and the university’s doctoral program in educational leadership increases 13 percent with 137 students.
“It’s clear that Tarleton attracts the best and brightest students in increasing numbers,” said Tarleton President Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio. “We are a student-focused university dedicated to providing a real-world, high-quality educational experience at an affordable price at our locations in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian and online.”
“Our students tell us time and time again that our quality faculty, personal attention and family atmosphere are defining characteristics of a Tarleton education,” Dottavio noted.
Enrollment at Tarleton’s Fort Worth location is up 7 percent with 1,843 students—21 percent of those are Hispanic and 13 percent black—and 12th class day reports for Tarleton-Waco show a 5-percent increase with 1,036 students taking classes on the campus of McLennan Community College. Tarleton-Waco numbers also show an increase in minority enrollment with Hispanic students making up 23 percent of the student population and black students 13 percent.
