TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY BOASTS RECORD SUMMER ENROLLMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, June 1, 2020

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — An all-time record number of students have enrolled for summer classes, proving Tarleton State University continues to be a choice destination, even in the midst of a global pandemic.

As of Friday, almost 5,700 students will take summer courses at Tarleton, up more than 500, about 8.5 percent, from a year ago.

“Tarleton’s current enrollment success is a testament to the future-focused mindset of our institution,” said President James Hurley. “Our students are wisely displaying that Texans Know How to turn uncertain times into extraordinary opportunities. Our outstanding faculty and staff continue to illustrate exceptional commitment to ensuring student success.”

Keegan Buchanan, a computer science major from Denton with an eye on graduating in May 2022, said the university’s response to the pandemic made him comfortable with his choice to enroll in summer online classes.

“I was really happy with the move Dr. Hurley made to transition to an online learning environment for the spring and summer semesters,” Keegan said. “I thought it was the right choice.”

Tarleton’s vice president for enrollment management, Dr. Javier Garza, said the student body has proven most resilient.

“These young adults have lived through 9/11, the Great Recession, the increase in mass shooting incidents, and now the pandemic,” he said. “Their commitment to advancement and building better lives for themselves and their families is an inspiration. The world will be in good hands with this group of leaders.”

The record summer enrollment is expected to push fall numbers higher, too, as Tarleton prepares for the 2020-2021 academic year.

“I am very proud of our entire Tarleton family,” Hurley said, “and we look forward to an incredible fall semester as our growth and momentum continue to soar.”
