STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University today received approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) for a new bachelor of science degree program in mechanical engineering.

The new degree builds on Tarleton’s existing undergraduate programs in civil, electrical and environmental engineering as well as engineering physics.

“This is a major step forward,” said Tarleton Provost Dr. Karen Murray. “This new undergraduate program supports the university’s longstanding commitment to academic advancement and improves employment opportunities for students.

“In addition to providing students with exemplary education and training, the new mechanical engineering program better positions Tarleton to meet the workforce needs of North Texas and beyond. Students who complete this program are likely to find jobs in a number of emerging industries, including aerospace, manufacturing and renewable energy.”

The bachelor’s in mechanical engineering program—set to begin this fall—requires students to complete 128 credit hours.
