STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University launches its first-ever summer Classical Academy for fourth- through 12th-graders June 5.
Part of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts slate of summer offerings, the day camp is aimed at homeschoolers as well as students enrolled in private and classical schools.
“We have seen an increase in the number of students at Tarleton who are coming from schools with a classical education focus,” said Dr. Eric Morrow, Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. “This connects well with our Honors College and communicates how a classical education can be continued at Tarleton through our core curriculum areas.”
The immersive art and humanities classes are designed to enhance learning by inspiring critical thinking and teaching effective communication, with an emphasis on civic education.
“Students who love to learn will enjoy engaging in classes that they may not normally be able to do during the school year,” said Prudence Jones, Fine Arts Summer Camp Director. Classes are still being finalized but are expected to include:
- Astronomy
- Ceramics
- Digital Audio
- Digital Media
- Drama/Dance
- Geography (GIS)
