STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University’s Jazz II and III ensembles will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium in Stephenville.
The Jazz II ensemble, directed by Timothy Bauckman, will feature music from composers of the swing era to the present, including Dizzy Gillespie, Sammy Nestico, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Radiohead, and Thelonious Monk.
Tuesday’s set list begins with Sammy Nestico’s “Switch in Time” and continues with “Bodysnatchers” by Radiohead and arranged by Fred Sturm; Monk’s “Ruby, My Dear,” arranged by John Fedchock; the John Clayton arrangement of Jeff Hamilton’s “Max,” and “Manteca,” composed by Monk, Chano Pozo and Gil Fuller.
The Jazz III ensemble, led by Wade Girton, will present music associated with and inspired by Count Basie featuring Benny Carter compositions “Goin’ On,” “The Legend” and “Easy Money,” “Kind Folk” by Kenny Wheeler and a Jazz III composition, “Blues.”
Admission is $5 or free with a Tarleton ID.
