MIDLOTHIAN, Texas—Tarleton State University on the Midlothian campus of Navarro College has received the 2016 Gene Rodgers Community Service Award and a U.S. Senate Commendation acknowledging the honor.

Given by the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce, the award highlights the university’s exemplary service to the city and its residents. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz signed the commendation.

“Tarleton State University truly exemplifies what it means to support the community through philanthropic activities,” said Cammy Jackson, president of the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce. “The university displays exceptional commitment to this community, and for that we appreciate and honor them.”

Created in 2011, Tarleton-Midlothian serves more than 250 graduate and undergraduate students with degree programs in agribusiness, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, business and industrial management—to name a few—through face-to-face and online instruction.

“We are extremely grateful to the chamber for this award,” said Tarleton-Midlothian Director Dr. Sandi McDermott. “It means a lot to me and the entire Tarleton-Midlothian team to be recognized for the service we provide to the community and to our students. We admire, respect and value Midlothian, and we are committed to continued educational excellence and community service.”
