STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Tarleton State University Jazz 1 ensemble presents “Thad Jones and the Modern Big Band” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville.
Jones was a virtuoso jazz trumpet player, composer and arranger, notably with the Count Basie Orchestra and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. His “Groove Merchant,” “Consummation,” “Three & One,” “Basic-Ally Yours” and “Tip Toe” highlight the concert.
Toshiko Akiyoshi’s “After Mr. Teng,” “Hang Gliding” by Maria Schneider and “Moanin’ ” by Charles Mingus round out the set list.
Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors, children and faculty; and $5 for students with a Tarleton ID.
