STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Area high school and college musicians have the opportunity to collaborate in a concentrated environment at Tarleton State University’s annual Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Day, Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville.
The event kicks off with registration at 8 a.m. and features classes, ensemble performances and an evening concert featuring Brass Day guest clinician and performer Dr. Jason Hausback.
Hausback is an associate professor of trombone at Missouri State University, where he directs the Jazz Studies Ensemble II.
Prior to his arrival at Missouri State, he was active as a teacher and a performer in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He taught low brass at Eastfield College in Mesquite and at Brookhaven College in Farmer’s Branch.
At the University of North Texas he was both a classical and jazz Teaching Fellow and directed the U-Tubes, who won the 2010 Eastern Trombone Workshop National Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition. He issued their self-titled CD in the spring of 2011. Additionally, Hausback was a member of the internationally-acclaimed One O’Clock Lab Band at UNT and was on the recording “Lab 2009,” which was nominated for two Grammy awards.
