Tarleton Hosts 1st Cavalry Division Band Christmas Concert Tuesday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The 1st Cavalry Division Band from Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) will present a fun-filled holiday show, “Cavalry Carols,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Tarleton State University’s Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

The hour-long program features holiday favorites in a variety of styles from orchestral to big band, country to Motown.

Admission is free.

Combining a rich tradition with modern production values, the 1st Cavalry Division Band provides musical support to the 1st Cavalry Division, III Armored Corps, Fort Cavazos, and the Central Texas community. The band was organized at Camp Verde, Texas, in 1855 and participated in the war against the Comanche.

It evolved into its modern form in 1945, combining musicians from the battle-scarred 5th Cavalry Regimental Band, the 7th Cavalry Regimental Band and the 1st Cavalry Division Artillery Band.

Serving at several posts, the band has enhanced morale and promoted American popular music in Korea, Vietnam, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Joint Forces in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The band is composed of troopers who perform throughout Central Texas and in nationally televised events.

A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. For 125 years, Tarleton State has been committed to accessible higher education opportunities for all while helping students grow academically, socially and professionally through programs that emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
