STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Tarleton’s Collegiate FFA Chapter is set to welcome approximately 1,600 high school FFA members on Thursday, Nov. 3, as part of the annual Tarleton State University Invitational Leadership Career Development Event (LCDE).
Organizers expect this year’s LCDE to be among the largest in the university’s history, said Dr. Rudy Tarpley, head of Tarleton’s Department of Agricultural and Consumer Sciences. Students travel to Stephenville from more than 120 schools across the state to compete in 13 LCDE contests.
Teams and individual FFA members use the Tarleton Invitational LCDEs as an opportunity to hone their knowledge and skills prior to their respective district competitions, as well as the area and state qualification contests scheduled for late November.
Events at this fall’s LCDE contest include: Ag Advocacy, Ag Issues Forum, Greenhand Chapter Conducting, Greenhand Creed Speaking, Greenhand Quiz, Greenhand Skills, Job Interview, Public Relations, Radio Broadcasting, Senior Chapter Conducting, Senior Creed Speaking, Senior Quiz and Senior Skills.
Teams begin registering on the Tarleton campus at noon inside the Joe W. Autry Agriculture Building with contests starting at 1 and 4 p.m.
