STEPHENVILLE, Texas —Tarleton State University hosts the last of three Hire Education series speakers Wednesday, March 6, featuring Texas Workforce Commission Education Specialist Micah Carpenter.
The Hire Education Speaker Series gives the community and Tarleton faculty, staff and students an opportunity to hear speakers present about multiple topics in higher education and the workforce.
Carpenter will present “Texas Workforce Commission Career Education/Exploration Resources: Not Just for Economists and Job Seekers Anymore” at 4 p.m. in Room 27 of the Thompson Student Center. The presentation is a detailed showcase of all free career education tools and materials created by TWC’s Labor Market and Career Information Department with students in mind.
Faculty, staff, administration, and community members will see resources from LMCI and participants can follow along on their own devices. Additionally, attendees will discover what is in store for the LMCI Education Outreach team in the next year and how to leverage their services to make connections between academics and workforce staff.
Students are the target audience of Carpenter’s presentation “Where Are the Jobs?” at 5:30 p.m., also in Room 27 of the TSC. Carpenter will profile the demand for future careers and skills.
Participants will discover the current demand for jobs in Texas and will compare that demand to typical student interest and demonstrate how those differences are creating gaps in the workforce, as well as ways to bridge those gaps. There also will be discussions on ways to bridge the gaps and the use of free TWC resources to help students and job seekers understand the realities and variety of the job market.
