STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University was awarded a Bronze Seal last week from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for nonpartisan student voter participation in the 2020 presidential election.
Tarleton’s voting rate was almost 59 percent, up 16 points from the 2016 election. At least 50 percent voter turnout is required to earn a Bronze Seal.
“We are honored to receive this recognition,” said university President James Hurley. “It reflects our institutional commitment to civic learning and demonstrates that Tarleton Texans care deeply about our country.”
The 2020 presidential election engaged the largest and most diverse group of college students in U.S. history, with more than 840 institutions — enrolling close to nine million students — participating in the ALL IN Challenge. Awards were presented in a virtual ceremony Nov. 8.
“The rise in voter participation and engagement for college students in last year’s presidential election, amidst a global pandemic, was tremendous and will undoubtedly be tied to the tireless efforts of the dedicated students, faculty, administrators and partner organizations that are part of the ALL IN Challenge network,” said Jen Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. For 125 years, Tarleton State has been committed to accessible higher education opportunities for all while helping students grow academically, socially and professionally through programs that emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
