2018 College National Finals Rodeo

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Competition began this weekend at the 2018 College National Finals Rodeo with Tarleton State University bareback rider Tyler Berghuis claiming third place in the first go-round — Sunday’s “Bulls, Broncs and Breakaway” event.
Berghuis, one of 20 cowboys to make qualified rides Sunday, earned 78 points on his first bronc at the annual Casper, Wyo., event. He is just a half point behind Montana State cowboy Jesse Nelson and Jesse Pope of Missouri Valley College, who tied for first after 78.5 scores Sunday. Berghuis’ Tarleton teammate Linden Woods was bucked off just shy of the horn on Sunday.
Saddle bronc specialist Brody Cress, competing with an injured leg, also was bucked off for no score.
Tarleton breakaway roper Rylee Jo Dick was in action Sunday, flashing a 4.0 time. The event leader after one go-round is Marlee Mussman of Montana Western, who turned in a 2.3-second clocking.
Tie-down ropers Wyatt Williams and Kyle Parrish, along with team roper Ky Bray and five-time CNFR goat-tying qualifier Baili Collins, will represent Tarleton in today’s competition.
The rodeo runs all week. Championship finals take place Saturday.
