STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Inherited Moments, an exhibition that features the work of Chris Ireland, Tarleton State University professor of art and digital media, and H. Jennings Sheffield, associate professor of art-photography at Baylor University, is on showcase through Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Tarrant County College Northwest Lakeview Gallery in Fort Worth.

The exhibition utilizes familial imagery to portray intimate connections and relationships as well as the element and importance of time.

Ireland’s photographic images and diptychs come from his series Ordinary Time, which explores the psychology of ritual in the artist’s family through photographic works spanning the last 10 years. The photographic diptychs highlight the daily patterns and routines that define the family in the face of loss and change over time.

Sheffield’s work, Tethered, is based on images she photographed over four months, documenting her life as artist, mother, professor, wife and daughter.

The work investigates the tethering-effect we feel and experience everyday as we perform our daily roles — two hours in the morning vs. two hours in the evening convey different characters, circumstances, responsibilities and roles.

Select images from both series have been carefully curated to create Inherited Moments, allowing the viewer to discover the intended associations between the passing of time, shared spaces and the roles we play, and investigate what we inherit from our own families and daily interactions.

The exhibition moves to San Antonio in September and Houston in October.
