Tarletan-Midlothian Scholarship Initiative
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, April 4, 2017
STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University today announced an initiative to endow a scholarship fund for students attending its Midlothian center on the campus of Navarro College.
Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio, in a ceremonial launch, noted that scholarships play a major role in student success, particularly for first-generation college students.
“When a first-generation student receives a college degree, it not only changes the student, it changes future generations,” Dr. Dottavio said. “Understand, this is a remarkable act of service.”
Calling Tarleton’s Midlothian center “small but mighty,” advisor and program manager of community outreach Michelle Fisher thanked donors as part of Tuesday’s endowed scholarship signing.
“We are the smallest group,” said Fisher, “but we feel really fortunate we get to build a relationship with our students. They come in and say, ‘I don’t really know what I’m doing here, but I know I want to do something with my life.’ That is such an empowering moment. Being able to provide this opportunity for them is wonderful. It’s the next step in Tarleton greatness.”
Launching the scholarship, which now may be accessed for donations, was part of Tarleton’s second annual 24-hour Day of Giving campaign. This year’s effort is expected to surpass the $141,000 raised last year.
