STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Twin sisters Linda Stewart and Anita Christie along with Anita’s husband, Randy, recently endowed a Tarleton State University scholarship memorializing the sisters’ father, Clinton Smith; Linda’s son, Clint Stewart; and John Christie, Randy’s brother.
The Clinton Smith, Clint Stewart and John Christie Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created for Tarleton students in good standing with a grade point average of at least 2.5 who have demonstrated financial need.
Clinton was born in Erath County and served in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy before embarking on a civilian career as a CPA and a well-regarded professor at Tarleton, where he taught for three decades. Clinton was selected for the honor of Professor Emeritus after he retired.
Clint Stewart died unexpectedly at age 45. He was Clinton Smith’s only grandchild and made an impact on the lives of many as a loving father, son, grandson, husband and friend. Clint was a graduate of Huckabay High School and served as a manager of La-Tex for several years.
John Christie died unexpectedly at age 55 in 2014. He was employed for many years by Dublin Independent School District. His family and friends miss his cheerful, generous and kind nature. The endowed scholarship in the name of these three family members ensures a lasting impact on generations of students.
The sisters’ mother, McKee Jane Smith, also attended Tarleton. She has a scholarship named for her, too, established in 2005.
The family ties to Tarleton run deep as McKee Jane’s mother, aunt, four uncles, sister, brother and husband all attended the school. In addition, Linda and Anita are both honor graduates of the university.
