Registration Open for Tuesday’s Virtual Erath County Health Summit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, August 8, 2022

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Area educators are invited to register for the virtual Erath County Health and Education Summit beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9.

The interactive session will focus on the most recent health statistics for Erath and surrounding counties. Topics will include “Nutrition and Local Resources for Educators” and “How Can I Make Sure My Classroom is Ready for Emergencies?”

The event is hosted by Erath Engaged, a rural outreach initiative of Tarleton State University’s Rural Communications Institute.

“The vaccination rates for COVID-19 are stalling throughout our rural communities,” noted Dr. Subi Gandhi, leader of Erath Engaged and a Tarleton public health Associate Professor. “With the back-to-school season and winter months approaching, the chances of infectious disease transmission increase significantly as indoor activities increase.

“It’s important to realize that the pandemic is not over and we need to take the best measures to prevent the transmission of diseases such as COVID-19 and the flu this fall. The best mitigation strategy to avoid fast community spread is through vaccination.”

Erath Engaged will continue education and outreach to reduce health disparities in rural communities. This session is the second of several be held throughout the Cross Timbers region. The summits are supported by the Texas Department of State Health Services – Public Health Region 2/3 and AgriLife.
