STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Theatre at Tarleton presents the hilarious musical “Sister Act,” running Wednesday, Feb. 20, through Saturday, Feb 2,3 in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville.

Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for senior citizens, children, and faculty and staff; and $5 for Tarleton students. The box office will be open from 2 – 6 p.m. weekdays through the run of the show. For tickets, call 254-968-9634.

Each performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

The production is based on the hit 1992 film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.

The plot follows a Philadelphia lounge singer named Deloris Van Cartier, played in the Tarleton production by Jordan Hopkins, who witnesses her mobster boyfriend killing an employee.

Deloris is hidden in a convent under a witness protection program where she makes friends with the nuns. After being caught going out to a bar, Mother Superior, played by Ellen Houlden, orders Deloris to join the church choir, only to find her coaching the singers and updating their sound.

The choir proves to be a big success with the surrounding neighborhood, but opens the door on Deloris’ whereabouts being discovered.

The production is directed by Tarleton associate professor of theatre Carol Stavish, who also serves as set designer.

“We welcome all to join in the joyous fun,” Stavish said, “and I know you will depart tapping your toes, humming the tunes and blessing yourself that you attended such an exuberant and delightful production.”
