Ellington and Strayhorn Featured in Jazz I Ensemble Concert ‘Lush Life’ 

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Tarleton State University Jazz I ensemble will present the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn in “Lush Life” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium in Stephenville.

The show will be presented in chronological order of the tunes’ composition, beginning with “East St. Louis Toodle-Oo,” written in 1926, and ending with 1970’s “Portrait of Louis Armstrong.”

Also featured are “The Mooche,” “Echoes of Harlem,” “Lush Life,” “I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart,” “In a Mellow Tone,” “Ko-ko,” “Concerto for Cootie,” “Cottontail,” “Chelsea Bridge,” “Raincheck,” “Caravan,” “Satin Doll,” “Isfahan” and “Intimacy of the Blues.”

Tarleton State’s own Dr. Heather Hawk will join the show as vocal soloist. Dr. William K. Ford directs the ensemble.

Admission is $5 or free with a Tarleton ID.
