A new home for Tarleton State University’s School of Engineering reached an important milestone yesterday when workers reached the pinnacle of the building’s construction and marked more than 100,000 hours without a time-loss injury — a celebration known as “topping out.”

During the early 20th century, Daniel B. McMillin moved his family of eight to a farm in Erath County just so his six children could attend college at Tarleton. When his middle daughter, Glynda, graduated from high school in 1930, McMillin went to the bank and borrowed $100 to fund her two years at Tarleton, where she studied home economics.
