STEPHENVILLE, Texas — As Texas continues to experience rapid population and economic growth, Tarleton State is strategically expanding its academic portfolio to prepare graduates for emerging workforce needs across healthcare, technology, agriculture, infrastructure and behavioral health.
Since 2019, Tarleton State has received approval for more than 42 new academic programs, growing its academic portfolio to 91 bachelor’s degrees and 52 master’s and doctoral degrees.
Recent approvals through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) include programs in artificial intelligence and machine learning, neuroscience, civil engineering and school mental health counseling, helping prepare workforce-ready graduates for high-demand industries.
Supporting the university’s continued academic growth, the Division of Health Sciences is building a comprehensive, interprofessional model for healthcare education. The addition of Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Medicine programs helps address workforce shortages and improve healthcare access in rural and underserved communities across Texas.
“This level of academic expansion reflects Tarleton State University’s unwavering commitment to growth and innovation,” said Dr. Barry Lambert, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We are strategically developing programs that not only align with workforce needs but also create meaningful opportunities for our students to thrive in high-demand fields.”
The continued addition of new programs complements the university’s broader enrollment growth and institutional momentum. As Tarleton State expands its academic footprint, it remains focused on delivering accessible, high-quality education while supporting economic development across the state.
“Our growth is intentional and student-centered,” Dr. Lambert said. “Each new program represents our dedication to preparing graduates who are ready to lead, serve and make an impact in their communities.”
A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of more than 21,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. For over 125 years, Tarleton State has been committed to accessible higher education opportunities for all while helping students grow academically, socially and professionally through programs that emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
