Overview
The Texas First Scholarship provides state credit (a scholarship) to eligible, admitted students who graduate early from a Texas public high school with the Distinguished Level of Achievement. The state credit offered to you is based on the number of semesters you graduate early. The value of the scholarship is determined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Eligibility Criteria
To receive this scholarship, you must:
- Be a Texas resident
- Register for Selective Service or be exempt from this requirement
- Have graduated early from high school under the Texas First Early High School Completion Program and comply with the high school graduation requirements
Funding
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will issue a certificate to you if you meet all eligibility requirements.
State credit offered through this program expires at the end of the first academic year following your graduation from high school. The Texas First Program does not guarantee automatic admission for students.
- For a student who graduated from high school two or more semesters or the equivalent earlier than the student’s high school cohort, the state credit offered to the student will equal the maximum annual (two semester) TEXAS Grant amount determined by the Coordinating Board.
- For a student who graduated from high school less than two semesters or the equivalent earlier than the student’s high school cohort, the state credit offered to the student will equal half of the amount.
- On enrollment of an eligible student at an eligible institution, the institution shall apply the state credit to the student’s charges for tuition, mandatory fees, and other costs of attendance.
- The amount applied for the semester is equal to the lesser of:
- The amount of the state credit available to the student; or
