Renovation of Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium Celebrated With Ribbon Cutting

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The recent renovation of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium was officially celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 8, recognizing the transformation of a cherished event space on Tarleton State University’s campus.

The renovation included a comprehensive interior refresh to enhance the auditorium’s appearance while preserving the space’s character. Updates included custom seating fabric, new carpet, updated wall finishes, refinished doors, accent lighting and new drapery.

Built in 1980 and dedicated to distinguished Tarleton State alumnus and Texas higher education leader Clyde H. Wells, the auditorium has hosted generations of students who have taken the stage for concerts and productions, while families, alumni, and community members have gathered to celebrate milestones and university achievements.

“For decades, the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center has served as a gathering place for artistic expression, academic achievement and community engagement,” said Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley. “The enhancements made to the space showcase the years of history that the building holds while also creating a venue that feels undoubtedly like Tarleton State.”

The renovated auditorium has already hosted several significant university events, including the White Coat Ceremony for Tarleton State’s inaugural Physician Assistant Medicine cohort and the Fall 2026 Ring Ceremonies, a treasured university tradition of presenting future graduates with their Tarleton State class ring.

Throughout the year, the facility hosts concerts, theatrical productions, lectures, ceremonies and special events, welcoming students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members from across the region.

Home to programs within Tarleton State’s Department of Performing Arts, the center plays a vital role in supporting student learning and creative development.

“Thanks to the renovations in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center, we are better able to serve the Tarleton State community,” said Dr. Emran El-Badawi, Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. “Improvements to lighting, technology, and color scheme make for more vibrant performances and sonorous concerts. Tarleton State students now have an updated facility to learn and grow in, and faculty, staff, alumni and community members now have access to the cutting-edge spaces to enjoy events and performances.”

Some of the upcoming performances that will be held in the new space include a Choir Concert, a theater production of Frankenstein, Latin Band Concert, Percussion Concert, Jazz Band Concerts, and the Holiday Collage Concert.

The renovation reflects Tarleton State’s continued commitment to investing in facilities that support student success, academic excellence and the arts while ensuring cherished campus spaces remain vibrant for future generations.
