Tarleton State University faculty members’ professional growth efforts were recognized in yesterday’s Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) Achievement Celebration. Presented by the Center for Educational Excellence (CEE), the celebration marked a milestone in ongoing professional development and growth.
ACUE’s certification offerings include Effective Teaching Practices or Effective Online Teaching Practices. Tarleton State aims for at least 65 faculty members to complete at least one ACUE micro course toward earning full certification each academic year as set forth in the Tarleton State Forward 2030 strategic plan. During the past academic year, 77 faculty members completed at least one micro-course, and 35 faculty members, honored at this celebration, earned their complete certification.
“Tarleton State advances academic excellence by supporting faculty participation in the ACUE programs,” said Dr. Bryn Brown, ACUE Faculty Fellow for CEE. “Faculty who earn the ACUE certification dedicate approximately two to three hours per week over 25 weeks total to their program, gaining evidence-based strategies to foster active learning, boost student engagement, and support academic achievement.
“Earning the certificate is only the beginning. Faculty also gain continued access to a wide range of professional development resources in the ACUE Commons, ensuring continual growth in teaching excellence.”
The Texas A&M System has partnered with ACUE since 2020 to deliver tangible results in the classroom. According to ACUE’s systemwide case study, certified faculty achieved fewer failures or withdrawals and improved grades among their students.
In addition to their ACUE certificate, faculty received a letter of congratulations from The Texas A&M System Chancellor Glenn Hegar, commemorative pin and coveted A&M System medallion. The greatest symbol of this accomplishment, however, remains the continued success of Tarleton State students.
