Women’s Team Sweeps Event Titles To Win San Antonio Rodeo

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University’s women’s rodeo team, on the strength of championship efforts in each event, accumulated 335 points and captured first place in last weekend’s South Texas Collegiate Classic Rodeo at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio.

Breakaway roper Rylee Grace Abel’s two-run 3.9-second time featured a rodeo-best 1.9 clocking in the preliminary go-round and a 2.0 in the finals. Faith Lundberg flashed the top time in the goat tying finals, a 5.7, to finish with a 12.7 in the average, and Patton Lynch’s 14.5, best in the barrel racing long go, was the springboard to a two-run 29.49.

Jenna Fulton contributed a fifth in breakaway roping, turning in a 2.3 and 3.9 for 6.2 on two, and Brooklyn Balch’s 6.8 and 6.3 times for a two-head 13.1 were good for second in goat tying. Teammate Rhiley Montoya was eighth with a 15.9 total on runs of 6.2 and 9.7 seconds.

Anna Clark flashed times of 14.86 and 15.1 seconds for a combined 29.96 and sixth place in barrel racing. Teammate Karmen Martin’s seventh-place 29.99 featured a long go 14.7 and a 15.25 in the finals, Ashlyn Goven took eighth with her 14.87 and 19.85 times for a 34.72 on two, and Maci McDonald took 10th with a 39.82 combined time, featuring runs of 14.65 and 25.17.

Tarleton State’s defending national champion men’s team took third in San Antonio as four bareback riders finished in the top five led by Devon Moore’s two-head 156. Moore’s tally, which tied for first in the event, included rides of 82.5 points in the first go-round and 73.5 in the finals. Taylon Carmody’s 80.5 in the long go-round and a 75 in the finals took third in the average with his 155.5 on two rides, Clay Greenslade finished fourth with his 151.5 on scores of 76 and 75.5.5, and Jace Lomheim wound up in fifth with a 75.5 and 71 for a 146.5 on two head.

Bull rider Brenson Bartlett’s 83 in the long go gave the Tarleton State rider second in the event, and saddle bronc riders Montgomery Parsons, who scored a 143 on rides of 68 and 75, and Colton Lewis, who finished with a two-ride 129 on scores of 60 and 69, were second and fifth.

Kreece Dearing’s 10.1 and 8.1 for an 18.2 on two head was good for third in tie-down roping, Dalton Porch’s 7.9 and 5.9 for a two-run 13.8 took fourth in steer wrestling, and Tarleton State’s Conner Callihan joined forces with Kutter Babb of Ranger College for a 6.9 and 5.4, scoring a 12.3 third-place team roping finish.

Both Tarleton State teams return to action March 26 in Sweetwater at the Ranger College Rodeo.
