2026 Leadership and Service Award Recipients Named 

Tarleton State University celebrated a roster of honorees during its annual Leadership and Service Awards Dinner and Ceremony tonight at the Barry B. Thompson Student Center. Acknowledging individual and group achievement, the awards recognize outstanding contributions to the thriving institution and surrounding communities. 

The evening’s presenters, including Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley, championed each recipient’s dedication to and modeling of the university’s core values of Excellence, Integrity, and Respect.  

“These awards celebrate individuals and groups who embody leadership, service and Tarleton State University’s core values,” said Dr. Geoffrey Johnston, Director of Campus Life. “Honorees range from freshmen to graduate students and non-traditional learners, while exceptional programs, student organizations, advisors and community partners are also recognized for their contributions to creating a vibrant and service-oriented campus community.”

Individual Awards 

– Freshman Leadership Award: Bella Little, Branden Ramirez 

– Sophomore Leadership Award: Angel Flores, Aiden Jordan 

– Wanda Mercer Legacy Award: Katelynn Altman, Joanna Fonsecca 

– Graduate Student Leader Award: Magaly Lopez, Lillian Snider 

Classification Awards 

– Tarleton First Award: Aaron Hernandez, Asher Yearout 

– Advocate Award: Sydney Huntley, Kaily Shrode 

– Earl Rudder Award: Grace Heavyside, Kara Williams 

– Leadership in Athletics Award: Maria Castano, Kasyus Kurns 

– Impact Award: Marissa Aguirre, Montana Zapata 

Organizational Awards 

– Col. Will L. Tate Organization of the Year: Black Student Union 

– Program of the Year: Second Annual Delta Chi Car Smash 

– May Jones Advisor of the Year: Dr. Amanda Stevens, Tarleton State Psychology MetaCAT Lab 

– Sen. Robert J. Glasgow Community Partner of the Year: Doug McLemore, McLemore Financial Group 

– W.O. and Flo Trogdon Organizational Service Award: Kappa Sigma fraternity 

– W.O and Flo Trogdon Individual Service Award: Molly Millenbruch 

The Tarleton Alumni Keeper of the Gates Award went to Israel Laureles. Anise Christensen, Aubrey Dyas, Kaylee George, Grace Heavyside, Mckenzie Hodge, Grace Jones, Avery Killough, Gabriella McFarland, Dimitra Poulos, Lauren Rodgers. Madison Thornton and James Williams were recognized with the John Tarleton Spirit Award.
