Admissions Information for Homeschool Students
When Can I Apply?
Homeschooled students may be evaluated for admission after successfully completing their junior year of high school.
What You’ll Need to Submit
1. Your Homeschool Transcript
Your transcript is the main document Tarleton State uses to review your high school coursework. It should include:
- Courses completed in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade
- The grade earned for each course
- Your cumulative GPA
- Any courses currently in progress
- Your expected graduation date
Your homeschool transcript must be notarized.
2. Optional: Test Scores
SAT, ACT, and CLT scores are optional for admission. However, you may choose to submit official scores, which can be used for:
- Scholarship consideration
- Possible TSI exemption
If you choose to submit scores, ask the testing agency to send them directly to Tarleton State University.
How Are Homeschooled Students Considered for Class Rank?
Because homeschool programs typically don’t provide a traditional class ranking, Texas law outlines a process for evaluating homeschooled applicants who choose to submit recognized test scores. If you provide SAT, ACT, or CLT scores, Tarleton State. will determine your class-rank equivalency in accordance with Texas Education Code Section 51.9241(d).

Submitting Your Final High School Transcript
As outlined above, you can submit your initial transcript to Admissions after completing junior-year coursework. Once you’ve completed senior year coursework, submit a final notarized transcript that includes the same information as your original, along with your final grades and graduation date.

Affordability
Important: House Bill 3041 during the 89th legislative session expanded eligibility to allow students who received a nontraditional secondary education (e.g., home-schooled) to be considered for a TEXAS Grant, if all other eligibility criteria are met, beginning with Fiscal Year 2027.

Q: What high school courses do I need to apply?
A: We require a curriculum equivalent to the recommended or advanced high school program. Please provide a list of courses and grades for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, as well as your cumulative GPA.
Q: Can I apply before completing my senior year?
A: Yes! We evaluate students upon completion of their junior year. Just list any senior year courses that are in progress on your transcript.
Q: Are SAT, ACT, or CLT test scores required for admission?
A: No, SAT/ACT/CLT scores are optional. However, submitting official scores may be beneficial for scholarship consideration or a possible TSI exemption. Scores should be sent directly from the testing agency.
Q: How are homeschool applicants without class rank evaluated?
A: If you completed a nontraditional curriculum without a graduating class rank, we follow Texas Education Code guidance. You’ll be assigned the average class rank of applicants with equivalent standardized test scores.
Q: How do I submit my high school transcript?
A: Please send your official notarized transcript (listing all completed coursework and grades) by mail or email to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. See the mailing address and email above. A final transcript with your graduation date is required after you complete all coursework.
Q: How long does it take to get an admissions decision?
A: After submitting your completed application and required documents, you will receive a decision within 2-3 business days.
