Admissions Information for Homeschool Students
High School Curriculum Requirements
Statements from the school about ranking and curriculum equivalent to the recommended or advanced program will be considered. Homeschooled students must provide proof of curriculum completed by an agency or teacher.
· Students may be evaluated upon completion of their junior year
- Include courses and grades for 9th, 10th and 11th grade
- Include cumulative GPA
· List any courses that are in progress
· SAT, ACT, and CLT scores are optional but official scores can be requested to be sent from the testing agency for scholarship review and possible TSI exemption
- For students submitting SAT, ACT, or CLT scores, Tarleton State follows the Texas Education Code Section 51.9241(d): If an institution of higher education in its undergraduate admission review process sorts applicants by high school graduating class rank, the institution shall place any applicant who presents evidence that the applicant has successfully completed a nontraditional secondary education that does not include a high school graduating class ranking at the average high school graduating class rank of undergraduate applicants to the institution who have equivalent standardized testing scores as the applicant.

A final high school transcript will be required with the same criteria and graduation date included once a student has completed all coursework.

Affordability
Important: House Bill 3041 during the 89th legislative session expanded eligibility to allow students who received a nontraditional secondary education (e.g., home-schooled) to be considered for a TEXAS Grant, if all other eligibility criteria are met, beginning with Fiscal Year 2027.

Homeschool Admissions & Application
Q: What high school courses do I need to apply?
A: We require a curriculum equivalent to the recommended or advanced high school program. Please provide a list of courses and grades for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, as well as your cumulative GPA. If you’re homeschooled, you’ll need proof of curriculum completion by an agency or teacher.
Q: Can I apply before completing my senior year?
A: Yes! We evaluate students upon completion of their junior year. Just list any senior year courses that are in progress on your transcript.
Q: Are SAT, ACT, or CLT test scores required for admission?
A: No, SAT/ACT/CLT scores are optional. However, submitting official scores may be beneficial for scholarship consideration or a possible TSI exemption. Scores should be sent directly from the testing agency.
Q: How are homeschool applicants without class rank evaluated?
A: If you completed a nontraditional curriculum without a graduating class rank, we follow Texas Education Code guidance. You’ll be assigned the average class rank of applicants with equivalent standardized test scores.
Q: How do I submit my high school transcript?
A: Please send your official notarized transcript (listing all completed coursework and grades) by mail or email to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. See the mailing address and email above. A final transcript with your graduation date is required after you complete all coursework.
Q: How long does it take to get an admissions decision?
A: After submitting your completed application and required documents, you will receive a decision within 2-3 business days.
