Fall 2026 Close-Down: Student Guidelines

1. Important Dates

  • Residence Halls Close: Wednesday, December 16, 2026 at 9:00 am. This close down date will remove any access that you have to your room and hall. It is recommended that all residents check out within 24 hours of their last final exam.
  • Request for Winter Break/Late Stays: Please be sure to complete the Winter Break/Spring Intent form on time if you plan to stay on campus during Winter Break. Form opens November 9, 2026 and closes December 2, 2026 and can be found on the student housing portal.
  • Late stays are for residents staying past close-down date – December 16, 2026, 9:00am. The following dates are only options for late stay – 12/17/26, 12/18/26, 12/19/26, 12/20/26, 12/21/26 by 9:00am. After 12/21/26 would be considered winter break dates and would be charged the $200.00 fee.
  • Residence Halls Reopen Spring 2027: Sunday, January 10, 2027.

2. Proper procedures for close-down are as follows

If you will not be staying for winter break

  • Dispose of all trash in the dumpsters.
  • Dispose of all perishable items.
  • Clean bed space by wiping down all surfaces and cleaning the floor.
  • Clean and wipe down all appliances in the bed space/common area.
  • Clean common areas and bathrooms by wiping down all surfaces and cleaning the floor.
  • Shut/lock all windows and lower the blinds.
  • Set the thermostat(s) to 70 degrees auto and heat.
  • Ensure door is secured and locked

If you will be staying for winter break and have been approved – you just need to be sure to complete the Winter Break/Spring Intent form by the deadline, December 2, 2026. The $200.00 fee will be applied to your Spring 2027 Texan Bill Pay.

If you are withdrawing, graduating, or not returning to campus for spring semester – you would need to be sure and follow the same steps above if not staying for winter break; you would check-out at the front desk of designated hall, turn in applicable keys and sign room condition sheet.

3. Mail & Packages

  • Forward mail if needed.
  • Pick up packages before departure.

4. Safety & Security

  • Report maintenance issues before leaving.
  • Do not leave valuables behind.

5. Travel Tips

  • Plan transportation early.
  • Check weather conditions.
