President’s Guaranteed Scholarship Program – Freshman

The President’s Guaranteed Scholarship Program aligns with the 120-year vision of Tarleton’s founder and benefactor to provide a high-quality university education to students who otherwise might not have the chance. Tarleton State University will guarantee scholarship levels to entering first-time freshmen who graduate in the top half of their high school class.

Program Requirements for Freshman

In order to be considered for the President’s Guaranteed Scholarship program you must complete your General Scholarships Application. Awards will be divided between fall and spring semesters based on full-time enrollment and be renewable ​for up to 4 years with satisfactory academic progress. 

Students graduating in the top 50% of their high school class will be guaranteed at an annual level between $500 and $4,000 as indicated in the table below.

*Students graduating in the top 50% of their class from one of Tarleton’s Distinguished High School Partners will be guaranteed at an annual level between $1,000 and $5,000 depending on class rank and test scores. The partnership program formalizes the commitment that Tarleton shares with area high schools to help students earn a university degree. 

*Only students in the top 25% of their class may qualify for an out-of-state tuition waiver

What if I don’t have a high school rank?

Alternate information (primarily but not necessarily exclusively, high school GPA) will be utilized to determine the annual guarantee level.

Will these awards be renewable?

The awards can be renewed for up to 4 years.

What if I don’t apply by the Scholarship Priority Deadline (February 15)?

Students submitting the scholarships application after the February 15 deadline will be eligible as funding allows. It is in the student’s best interest to apply as soon as possible. 

Will this be the only money I can receive for scholarships?

You can receive other scholarships and might qualify for more than the guaranteed amount. The guaranteed amounts can be funded partially or completely by institutional and/or endowment funds.

In addition to scholarships, for what other types of financial aid might I be eligible?

In addition to scholarships, you can also receive funds from the PELL Grant, Federal Student Loans, Federal Work Study and others.
