The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band at Tarleton State University. Membership in the ensemble comprised of the top wind and percussion players on campus, and members are selected by audition at the beginning of the fall semester. This group performs a assorted repertoire of new works for wind band, classics of the concert band, and orchestral transcriptions.

The group maintains a rigorous performance schedule which includes four full-length feature concerts each year, an appearance in the Department of Performing Arts’ Holiday Collage concert, exhibition and performance tours, and performances at all commencement ceremonies on the Tarleton State campus.

The Wind Ensemble performed a 2014 gala concert at Carnegie Hall, and in 2022 performed as a featured, invited ensemble for the Texas Music Educators Association Convention for the first time in school history. In 2024, the Wind Ensemble recorded its first commerical recording, Deep Reverberations.

The Wind Ensemble has a tradition of excellence and commissions new works for band and hosts outstanding composers, conductors, and soloists. The Wind Ensemble has participated in consortiums with universities from around the country to commission new works by several composers including Kevin Walczyk, David Avshalomov, Michael Schelle, Kevin McKee, Steven Bryant, and Bernard Scherr.
