To ensure Tarleton State University remains compliant with federal digital accessibility regulations (ADA Title II) and maintains a secure digital environment, we are updating the process for adding embedded content to our website.
What is an “Embed”?
This process applies to any third-party content “plugged in” to our site, including:
- Video: YouTube and Vimeo players.
- Dashboards: Tableau or PowerBI visualizations.
- Widgets: Social media feeds, calendars, or weather updates.
- iFrames: Any external tool or form displayed within a Tarleton page.
How to Request an Embed
Editors are now required to submit all embed requests via our new Kuali Embed Request Form:
👉 Access the Request Form Here
The Review Process:
Our team will evaluate the platform and your request. We will either approve and implement the code on your behalf or return the request with guidance on necessary accessibility or security revisions.
Why the Change?
Digital Accessibility: All embedded content must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. This means videos must have accurate captions, and dashboards must be navigable via keyboard and screen readers.
Security & Integrity: Third-party code (widgets or iframes) essentially acts as a “key” to our digital front door. Unverified code can lead to Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks, which could compromise university and user data.
Quick Checklist for Editors
Before submitting your request, please ensure:
1. YouTube: Captions are edited for accuracy (not just auto-generated).
2. Dashboards: Content is built with accessibility in mind (see Tableau’s Accessibility Guide).
3. Purpose: The embed is essential to the user experience and doesn’t negatively impact page load times.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping the university website vibrant, accessible, and secure. If you have any questions, please contact our team.
