Tarleton Parents Association Executive Board 2009-2010
"DUCK BAGS" DISTRIBUTION
Hello Tarleton Parents!!
The meeting was held in a conference room of the beautiful new dining hall and our speaker was Dean Dana Moore from the Office of Student Judicial Affairs. Dean Moore spoke on the transition of our students coming home for the summer after being "on their own" for the past school year. She provided many helpful suggestions for supporting their independence as well as providing boundaries in the home. There was a lively question and answer session following her presentation. In addition to the usual reading of the minutes and the review of the financial report, we talked about TPA activities over the past year and made preliminary plans for the summer send-off/welcome parties. The members voted to have a Parent Association "Lifetime Membership" option and to provide student scholarships for the spring semesters only. New officers were elected and other officers will continue for the next year. Those continuing will be President, Penny Spearman; Secretary Karla Cox; Treasurer Linda McDonald; Historian, Cindy Hook; and Parliamentarian, Lisa Tirk. Congratulations and THANK YOU to our new officers--1st Vice President in charge of membership--Gay Cooper of Lipan; and 2nd vice president in charge of the regional parent activities--Shalyn Trantham of Godley. Following the meeting, parents enjoyed lunch together in the dining hall and there was lots of "networking" happening! (Hint--the omelets were a huge hit!) Then, the real fun began. We moved over to the banquet hall at the Student Center and put together 200 Finals Duck Bags!! WOW! They were great! Thank you to all the parents and businesses who donated to the bags and to the parents who working on getting all the items into the bags. A special thanks to Lathes Towns, Parent Relations Coordinator and her wonderful assistant, Margie Holder for gathering all the items and keeping us organized! I hope your student was excited to receive their bag filled with goodies. This is one of the benefits of being a member of the Parent Association. We need your help with "manning" our booth at the Texan Tours and orientation as well as volunteers for summer send-off parties.
