Why Choose Tarleton as an International Student?

International Admissions & Retention Program Specialist

What will you say when the consulate official asks you…

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TARLETON?

It seems like a simple question but considering the thousands of other American colleges and universities from which there are to choose from, this question can be overwhelming.  We want visa applicants to know about Tarleton’s unique characteristics.  More than likely, the consulate officials in your country will not know anything about Tarleton.  I want to share some quick facts with you that may help you describe the American school that you are interested in attending.  My name is Arrin Hines, and I am the International Admissions and Retention Program Specialist at Tarleton.  I can assist you with obtaining an I-20 after receiving admission, maintaining your immigration status, and answering any questions that you may have while you are studying here at Tarleton.

Inside Scoop on Tarleton

Founded in 1899, Tarleton State University is accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees.  Regional accreditation is considered to be the “gold standard” for accrediting colleges and universities in the United States.  Additionally, many of our degree programs hold program-specific accreditation from their national accrediting bodies.

Tarleton offers over 100 different degree programs to study.  To view our majors please visit our website here.

One of the University’s main goals is “to become the premier comprehensive regional university in the nation, with a keen focus on student success, teaching, and research.”  As a result, Tarleton offers many majors, student activities, and student services – including international student services.  The International Student Services & Programs provides support services to international students from 31 foreign countries.  With a student population of just under 14,000, Tarleton is small enough to have a student to faculty ratio of approximately 22:1.  What does this ratio mean for you?  It means more one-on-one time with your professors and a hands-on learning experience – both of which you will be less likely to receive at a larger university.  Additionally, undergraduate and graduate students can participate in research with the faculty if desired. Tarleton’s research centers include the world-renowned Texas Institute for Applied Environmental Research, the Southwest Regional Dairy Center, and the Center for Agribusiness Excellence.

Stephenville – A One-of-a-Kind Experience

Tarleton State University is in one of the top 100 best small towns in America – Stephenville, Texas.  Situated one hour southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Stephenville offers easy access to big city amenities and a big city experience yet is set against the backdrop of rural north central Texas and the Bosque River.  Known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” Stephenville prides itself on its cowboy culture, rodeos, and hometown values – all of which come together to provide international students with a college experience unlike any other in the country.  It is a calm and safe place, where the people are very friendly and helpful.  Stephenville bleeds purple and actively supports the University and its students.

Bottom Line

Tarleton has everything that you need for a successful college experience: Small class sizes, a high-quality Texas A&M University System education without the high tuition costs, dedicated University College staff who will help you succeed academically, caring GCC staff who will help you culturally adjust to the US, one-on-one attention from your professors, and hands-on learning opportunities.  All that we are missing is you!

So, what will you say when the consulate official asks you, “Why did you choose Tarleton?”
