General Parking FAQ’s
Why do we have to pay for parking services?
- Parking and transportation auxiliaries at a Texas public university cannot be funded by the state.
- Services offered include night safety escort service, shuttle services, and access to campus parking.
- The department continually works to identify new services to improve parking and transportation services.
- All costs must be paid for by the responsible vehicle user.
- Enforcement is conducted to prevent the unauthorized use of permitted parking spaces by faculty, staff, and student non-permit holders.
Service-Connected Veteran parking
- Veterans who possess a minimum of a 40% service-connected disability rating are eligible for a parking permit at no cost to them.. To obtain this permit, they must present their official rating letter at the Parking office.
- It is the veteran’s individual responsibility to initiate contact with the Parking office annually or each long semester if student to renew or acquire their no-cost parking permit, ensuring continued eligibility.
- Vehicles displaying Disabled Veteran (DV) license plates are required to also exhibit a valid ADA placard to utilize designated ADA accessible parking spaces (State Law). This dual requirement ensures proper allocation of accessible parking.
How are parking and traffic violations enforced?
- Parking Services’ full-time and part-time enforcement staff, and Tarleton police officers patrol campus 24/7
What is the total number of parking spaces on Tarleton’s campus?
- Currently, Parking Services has over 7,100 spaces distributed over 43 lots at the Stephenville campus.
- There are approximately 380 spaces over 4 lots at the Ag Farm.
- There are approximately 500 spaces in the lot at the Fort Worth Campus.
How many ADA parking spaces are on campus?
- ADA spaces are calculated using ADA rules.
- While each lot is required to follow the ADA chart, some remote lots are being adjusted by over-allocating ADA spaces in lots closer to buildings.
- There are over 209 ADA spaces on campus.
How can I pay a citation?
- Citations must be paid online through the Parking Portal or Tarleton Marketplace.
- Cash payments can be made in person at the Business Services office.
- Account holds are removed within 24-48 hours after receiving payment.
Where can I park?

Is there a grace period before citations are issued?
- Parking is monitored at all times.
- Permits should be obtained upon arriving on campus.
- Tarleton uses citations, wheel-locks, relocation, and courtesy communication (warnings, phone calls & texts).
- Courtesy communication is not required and is offered at the discretion of Parking Services to educate about regulations.
What do I do if I get a new vehicle?
- Log in to your parking portal account to register your new vehicle (including temporary paper plates) and link the new information to your permit.
- Update your plate information when permanent plates are received and link vehicles to your permit.
What if I already have a registered vehicle but have to drive a different vehicle for a few days?
- Add or delete vehicles from your virtual permit through the Parking Portal.
- Link the added vehicle to your current permit.
- Permit holders can only have one vehicle on campus at a time.
I have a citation on my account, but I never received a physical ticket. Why am I responsible for the citation?
- Tarleton has transitioned to E-Citations, all citations will be sent to email on file.
- Citation notifications are emailed to registered vehicles in the portal.
- You are responsible for registering your vehicle and parking according to Tarleton’s parking Rules and Regulations, regardless of receiving a printed citation.

What about parking on campus at night? Do I need a permit? Can I park anywhere?
- Parking Rules and Regulations are in effect at all times; all vehicles need a permit.
- Between 5:00 pm and 6:00 am, Blue Zone lots are open for use, unless reserved for university events.
- Reserved, 24-Hour Reserved, ADA, and Visitor spaces are always reserved for properly permitted vehicles and may only be accessed by those individuals.
- Commuter permits are not valid between 12:00am and 5:00am.
- Overnight permits may be issued for special circumstances.
If I am a student and have a valid parking permit, can I park in Reserved and Visitor spaces?
- Reserved spaces are assigned to staff and faculty and citation will be issued for anyone that is not permitted for the specific reserved space.
- Visitor spaces are for visitors to Tarleton and cannot be used by permit holder (staff/faculy/student).
If I am a visitor at Tarleton, where should I park?
- All visitors must have a visitor’s parking permit from Parking Services (Thompson Student Center, suite 21) or by parking in Green All-Zone lots that have ParkMobile hourly parking.
- You will need your license plate number.
- Visitors should park in yellow or green lots, unless provided a permit indicating a specific lot.
- Visitors should avoid parking in Reserved spaces, 24-Hr Reserved Spaces, fire lanes, non-designated parking areas, and ADA spaces unless displaying a proper placard or plate.
ParkMobile Info
- For short-term parking in Green All-Zone lots, use the ParkMobile app.
- ParkMobile allows hourly payment via a mobile app.
- Signs with instruction are located in Lots P17, P40, P41, P43, and the Fort Worth Campus.
Washington Garage
- The Washington St. Parking Garage opened at the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester.
- Teal Permits are required to park in the Washington St. Parking Garage. Permits are sold based on availability at the time of purchase for students, faculty, and staff, and are valid for the Washington Garage and Green All-Zones only.
- Parking for retail visitors between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, is located in the new lot P44 or the front half of lot P41, both on Washington St.
- Tarleton State reserves the right to enforce parking Rules and Regulations inside the Washington St. Parking Garage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- The Washington St. Parking Garage has four levels. The first three levels are covered, and the top level is open. There are approximately 600 parking spaces available.
