Master’s Student Responsibility Timeline
Please use the following information as a guide in completing all necessary requirements to obtain your master’s degree. You are responsible for all degree requirements and, as such, should check with your faculty advisor or the current university catalog for specific requirements and dates.
First Semester
Before registering for classes for your first semester:
- Meet with representative/advisor/faculty in the academic department of interest for advising and clearance of advising block.
- Apply for scholarships, financial aid, and graduate assistantships if qualified. Be sure to note deadlines for consideration.
Second Semester
Prior to completing your registration for your second semester of classes, please complete the following action items:
- Contact your academic advisor regarding your official degree plan.
- Submit your GRE/GMAT/MAT scores if require.
- Develop a draft proposal in conjunction with your Advisory Committee.
- Submit your proposal to the College of Graduate Studies for approval.
Final Semester
In anticipation of your final semester, you will need to:
- Find a degree plan with the College of Graduate Studies before registering for classes.
- Apply for graduation online in the last full semester before your planned semester of graduation.
Please note the graduation application deadlines listed on the university calendar.
During your final semester you will be require to:
- Contact academic advisor regarding your comprehensive assessment and check calendar for deadlines.
- Submit defended, final, committee-approved thesis/dissertation to ProQuest.
- Contact the campus bookstore to order your academic regalia in order to participate in commencement.
