All Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degrees share a common University Core Curriculum plus a core set of Required Courses and specialization courses for a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Areas of specialization depend upon the student’s postgraduate career goals, and are tailored to suit those needs.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the study of chemical processes within and relating to living organisms, viruses, and biological secretions. As a subdiscipline of both biology and chemistry, biochemistry is often subdivided into the three fields of molecular genetics, protein science, and metabolism. True to its cross-disciplinary nature, biochemistry is integral to modern medicine. Biochemistry at Tarleton State University is one of two concentrations certified by the American Chemical Society.

Chemistry Teacher Certification (grades 8-12)

The Chemistry Teacher Certification concentration prepares students to teach chemistry at the high school level within the state of Texas. Students pursuing this path must also apply and graduate from the College of Education and Human Development at Tarleton, and pass their state licensure examinations. This highly rigorous path covers everything students must know for their TEKS examination.

Environmental Chemistry

The Environmental Chemistry concentration prepares students for careers working with public agencies and private consultants as environmental chemists, as well as preparing students for graduate coursework as environmental scientists. With a connected graduate program in Environmental Science at Tarleton State University, our program aspires to prepare today the scientists tomorrow needs.

Forensics

The Forensics concentration is aligned with the expectations of today’s criminal investigators to provide students with the skills, experience, and familiarity with machinery to aid in crime analysis. With the graduate and undergraduate programs in criminal justice in place at Tarleton State university, students in this program receive world-class education from experts in these fields.

Interdisciplinary Chemistry

The interdisciplinary chemistry concentration is designed for more versatile students who wish to combine a chemistry education with another campus program, such as another science or another major altogether.

Physical Science Teacher Certification (grades 8-12)

The Physical Science Teacher Certification concentration prepares students to not only teach chemistry at the high school level, but also any other physical science, such as physics. Similar to the Chemistry teacher Certification concentration, students pursuing this path must also apply and graduate from the College of Education and Human Development at Tarleton, and pass their state licensure examinations. This highly rigorous path covers everything students must know for their TEKS examination.

Pre-medical & Pre-dental

The Pre-medical & Pre-dental concentration prepares students for application and acceptance into medical school, and with the essential background they will need for passage of the MCAT. With a highly rigorous program, Chemistry at Tarleton State University is extremely competitive in its placement of graduates.

Pre-pharmacy

The Pre-pharmacy concentration prepares undergraduates for application and acceptance into pharmacy school, and with the essential background they will need for passage of the MCAT. With a highly rigorous program, Chemistry at Tarleton State University is extremely competitive in its placement of graduates.

Professional Chemistry

The Professional Chemistry degree path prepares the student for a postgraduate degree program in chemistry or as a practicing chemist. Boasting placements in programs such as MIT and DUKE, our program is well known for quality undergraduate education and experience. Our professional chemistry concentration at Tarleton State University is one of two concentrations certified by the American Chemical Society.
