Texan Corps of Cadets Special Teams
Wainwright Rifles Drill Team: Established in 1949, the Wainwright Rifles Drill Team at Tarleton is a precision drill unit. Cadets must audition and be voted in by current members. They train year-round to compete in drill competitions and manage drill practices and ceremonies. The team also performs at university events and may be tasked with organizing and teaching drill for other Corps units.
Color/Honor Guard: This group of Cadets represents Tarleton State University at various events, including march-ins, reviews, and special occasions. They present the Colors, act as an honor guard, and assist in recruiting efforts for both the university and the Texan Corps of Cadets.
Rudder’s Riders: Founded in 2021, Rudder’s Riders operate the Corps’ cannons, including the M1905 3” Field Gun and the 75mm Pack Howitzer. The unit practices year-round and performs at events such as “Retreat,” football games, and other ceremonies.
Grill Sergeants: Known for their skills on the grill, the Grill Team maintains and operates the Corps’ horizontal offset smoker, donated by support around the nation. They serve food and drinks at football games and other events, participate in food competitions, and cater to various requests.
Ranger Challenge: This nationwide Army ROTC competition tests military skills, marksmanship, and physical endurance. The Texan team trains year-round for regional and national contests. Cadets interested in rigorous physical and military training are encouraged to join, with a selection process in place.
Bataan Memorial Death March: The Bataan Team trains to participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March, a 26.2-mile event in White Sands, New Mexico, honoring WWII heroes. The team prepares during the Fall and early Spring semesters, with a selection process for participants.
