Texan Corps of Cadets: Leaders of Character

Students may join the Corps of Cadets without a military obligation. We offer a very strong Civilian Track option for cadets not pursuing a military commission.

The Texan Corps of Cadets are instilled with the values essential for service to our nation and are exceptionally qualified to succeed in business, government and the military. Members of the Corps can participate in any major area of study.

By joining the Corps, students:

Members of the Texan Corps of Cadets participate in the John Tarleton Leadership Academy (JTLA), a unique student-focused program that provide a significant advantage for Tarleton State University graduates. This is a premier leadership and character development program which uses both the classroom environment and hands-on leadership experience. Cadets who plan to pursue an active duty commission in the U.S. Army or U.S. Air Force are able to apply to the traditional Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, as a member of the Corps. The Texan Corps has also partnered with the Marines for Cadets interested in the Platoon Leader Class (PLC) program.

The academic courses complement participation and operation in the Corps to teach life skills such as:

  • Critical thinking
  • Time management
  • Teamwork

Cadet Opportunities

Obtain a Minor in Leadership Studies

The minor provide a concentrated learning experience in university-recognized leadership coursework.

Summer Internships or Field Training

Take part in distinctive real-world leadership experiences to promote a student's learning and development as a leader. Cadets will gain first-hand experience in high performing organizations and make valuable connections toward future job opportunities.

Leadership and Experience

Every member of the Corps of Cadets will have an opportunity to accept a leadership role during a student's sophomore, junior and senior year.

We strongly encourage members to be involved throughout campus in order to gain a variety of leadership experience. Cadets achieve a level of excellence in leadership and character qualities worthy to be called... TEXAN!
