“Don’t be afraid to take risks and remember that it’s okay to take full advantage of the opportunities that come your way. Growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.”

Tarleton State Alumna, Class of 2023 | First Generation Graduate

Tarleton State University is much more than just an educational institution. It’s a place where classmates turn into family and dreams become reality.

For first generation Tarleton State alumna, Esmeralda Chaidez, being a Tarleton State Texan meant forging lifelong friendships while also chasing a dream.

When trying to decide where to spend the next four years of her educational career, making Tarleton State her home was a no-brainer after visiting the lively campus and meeting with fellow Texans.

“I chose Tarleton because of how welcoming and accepting everyone was. It truly felt like a home away from home. I was fortunate to build a supportive community that encouraged me to pursue my dreams and accepted me for who I am,” Chaidez shared.

Once on campus full-time, Esmeralda fully immersed herself in the college experience by joining Greek life!

“As a proud member of Delta Phi Epsilon, I had the opportunity to participate in numerous philanthropic events, which helped me grow both personally and professionally while giving back to causes I care about,” Chaidez said.

Esmeralda graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in General Studies, allowing her the opportunity to thrive in a multi-faceted role and laying the foundation for entrepreneurial pursuits.

After crossing the Tarleton State commencement stage, Esmeralda’s entrepreneurial passions turned into reality.

“One of my greatest accomplishments has been opening my own small business—a western clothing boutique in Stephenville, Texas. Becoming my own boss has always been a dream of mine, and after graduation, I turned that dream into reality. Building my boutique from the ground up has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding, and it represents my dedication, vision, and passion for entrepreneurship,” Chaidez said.

In February 2023, The Branded Bronco, currently located at 476 E Washington Street, Stephenville, Texas, was born.

Though it originally started out as an online storefront, The Branded Bronco has grown into a successful western-chic boutique that services customers within and well beyond Erath county.

The boutique’s mission is to help its customers stand out, be bold and embrace their individuality. Chaidez believes that fashion should be a true expression of who you are!

“As the owner of The Branded Bronco Boutique, I manage all aspects of social media, marketing, and sales. I’m incredibly grateful for my time at TSU—my experiences there, especially through the organizations I was involved in, taught me invaluable lessons in leadership and the importance of effective delegation. Those skills continue to shape the way I run and grow my business today,” Chaidez said.

Her love for Tarleton State did not fade after commencement. It bloomed into an everlasting love for the city of Stephenville and all who inhabit it.

“One of my favorite parts of running The Branded Bronco Boutique is the opportunity to meet and connect with so many amazing people. I’m especially grateful to Tarleton State for the experiences and opportunities it gave me—that’s why I offer an ongoing in-store discount for students and faculty as a small way to give back to the Tarleton community,” Chaidez said.

Although she might not always get verbal recognition, Esmeralda’s love for her work and community paired with her hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed!

There are no words to express my joy and excitement in seeing her accomplish what she loves most. I am incredibly honored to have a small role in this adventure. I’ll forever be thankful to have met her!”

“Personally, she [Esmeralda] has become one of my closest friends since I’ve been buying from her boutique! She sets her price ranges because she was once a student too and knows how expensive boutique clothes can be! She puts her customers first and is one of the hardest working people I know!”

No matter how successful she has become, Esmeralda has never forgotten where it all began.

“I chose Tarleton State because of how welcoming the campus felt and its close proximity to home. I will continue to recommend Tarleton to others because of its strong values and the genuine care each professor shows for their students. I have nothing but positive things to say about the support I received. My professors provided the tools, resources, and encouragement I needed to succeed,” Chaidez said.
