If you have ever been in Stephenville, Texas during homecoming week you probably have had a glimpse of just how special the Alumnus of Tarleton are. Their pride runs deep, and they truly bleed purple. What is special about Tarleton alumni is that they are always reaching out to give back to the Tarleton Community and sharing their experiences with others. Let me introduce you to one alumnus that is doing big things, and it all started at Tarleton.
Meet Savion Washington, a Tarleton Alumni who has started his own business for kids and is the new Soccer Coach for Stephenville ISD. Savion is all about instilling motivation in kids through athletic training. He is the owner and lead trainer at SDUB Fitness, where he specializes in all types of training for kids and even adults. Not only does he focus on agility, he instills strong work ethic and motivational skills to all of his clients. Savion has recently started coaching for Stephenville ISD, where his passion for coaching kids can continue to prosper.
Savion shared with me some of how Tarleton helped shape his career. He stated, “Tarleton was an amazing experience for me. I played the sport that I have loved since childhood there, met my wife, and earned two degrees from Tarleton State University.” Savion earned his Degrees in Kinesiology from Tarleton. His wife has also recently graduated with her Masters Degree as well. Savion said, “My wife and I will bleed purple forever, in fact, she’s the Director of Basketball Operations for the Tarleton Women’s Basketball team. Pretty cool because she played basketball there too, that’s how we met!”
Savion and his wife were both Tarleton athletes during their time at Tarleton. “While playing football at Tarleton I met and still talk to what I like to call lifelong friends. Both, teammates and coaches have been huge just as far as support and connections as I’m still growing into my adult life”, Savion shared. When you come to Tarleton, you will have the opportunity to embrace the friendships and connections that will help you excel in your career after graduation. That is exactly how it played out for Savion. Savion mentioned how important it was to stay connected with your professors and leaders during your time at Tarleton. He stated, “While working on my undergrad in Kinesiology, I really connected and communicated with every professor I had. They have been a huge part of my success since graduation. My fitness business is doing well and I’m also employed by the Stephenville Independent School District. I give a lot of credit to Team Kinesiology at Tarleton for helping me find my passion.”
Savion has shown what great things Tarleton Alumni are doing by pursuing his passion for coaching and staying connected with the Stephenville Community.
Savion said, “To anyone reading this, I have one tip that will help you for a long time. Make sure you get out and meet people, network with people, connect now!”
