Racial Profiling Reports for the Tarleton State University Police
Complaints of Racial or Ethnic Profiling
Any driver or pedestrian who feels that they have been stopped and searched based on racial, ethnic, or gender-based profiling may file a written complaint with the Tarleton State University Police Department. No person shall be discouraged, intimidated, or coerced from filing such a complaint, or discriminated against because they have filed such a complaint.
Any officer contacted by a person who wishes to file such a complaint shall refer that person to his/her immediate supervisor. If the supervisor is not available, the officer will act in the supervisor’s stead. Upon being contacted by the person wishing to file a complaint, the immediate supervisor shall take the name and the contact number of said person; he shall, at the earliest convenience, notify the Chief of Police of the complaint.
The Chief of Police shall, as soon as practicable, notify the immediate supervisor of the officer who is the alleged in the complaint and instruct the supervisor to initiate an investigation.
The immediate supervisor of the officer who is the alleged in the complaint, shall, at the earliest possible convenience, contact the person making the complaint and request that the complaint be put into writing. The supervisor shall also request the names and contact numbers of any witnesses so that they may be contacted and written statements obtained.
The supervisor shall then locate the appropriate videotape (if applicable) and shall thoroughly review the incident. Upon completion of the investigation, the immediate supervisor shall notify the Chief of Police of his findings. The Chief of Police (or his designee) shall then notify all parties involved in the complaint of the results of the investigation.
