Status of Tarleton State University’s Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Education Program
The Texas Board of Nursing has placed Tarleton State’s Nursing Program on conditional approval status, meaning no new students can be admitted to the program for the Fall 2024 semester. The program will continue on this status until an 80% pass rate is achieved on the NCLEX-RN® exams for the 2024 calendar year. As of report date August 02, 2024, Tarleton State University’s first-time pass rate is 94.59% for 2024.
Efforts are underway to regain full approval status. For additional information, please email [email protected] or refer to the FAQ section below.
Frequently Asked Questions
I am currently in the nursing program (J1, J2, S1, S2); how does this affect me?
It does not. Junior and senior level students who have already started classes will continue through the program as usual.
I am a student who has applied; what is the status of my application?
Qualified applicants who have not started classes are not eligible to start classes, per the board ruling.
I have more questions about the future of my (my student’s) education; who can answer them?
Don’t hesitate to contact the School of Nursing via email at [email protected].
What is the process for returning to full approval status?
When the program achieves at least an 80% pass rate for first-time candidates for the 2024 NCLEX-RN® examination year (January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024). Tarleton State’s most recent cohort (December 2023 graduates) achieved a 96.15% pass rate, which is reflected in the 2024 calendar year.
The status change happened in April 2024, so how do we already have a first cohort pass rate?
The majority of nursing students graduating in December 2023 took their NCLEX-RN® exam in calendar year 2024, thus counting the entire cohort toward the 2024 pass rates.
Is the Tarleton State University School of Nursing accredited?
We remain fully accredited through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
What steps are being taken by the School of Nursing to address this situation?
Tarleton State University continues to work collaboratively with the Texas Board of Nursing to ensure a comprehensive approach to restoring the program’s status. The most recent cohort’s pass rate is 96.15%. For additional information, email [email protected].
I’m an incoming freshman nursing major at Tarleton State for Fall 2024. How does this change in status impact my path to completing a nursing degree at Tarleton?
Incoming freshmen are admitted as pre-nursing students and are not affected by status changes until the time to apply to the School of Nursing. Students apply in the last semester of their sophomore year.
I entered Tarleton State as a freshman in Fall 2023. If the board’s decision in January is favorable, will I be able to apply for the nursing program in Spring 2025, as I had planned?
If our 2024 cohort scores meet the 80% pass rate requirement, we expect to return to full approval status in the spring, pending board approval. However, we won’t be able to accept any new students prior to that ruling.
I am on track to apply in Fall 2024 to start the nursing program in Spring 2025. Should I be exploring other options?
As long as we are in conditional status, we are not permitted to enroll eligible students in our School of Nursing. Pending board approval and change of status, we will return to admission standards as outlined by the Texas Board of Nursing.
The baccalaureate degree program in nursing/master’s degree program in nursing at Tarleton State University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
