Tarleton State University offers two tuition plans. First-time Texas resident undergraduate students can choose between a guaranteed (fixed) tuition plan and a variable tuition plan. Students may change their selection up to 13 days before the first day of class; after that, the plan is locked.
Guaranteed Rate Plan
The Guaranteed Rate locks in tuition for four consecutive years and protects the student against increases. The time period begins with the student’s initial enrollment semester. After four years, the student will change to the current Variable Rate.
- Designed to help students and their families with the financial planning of a college education.
- Provides an incentive for students to earn a degree within four years.
- Is higher than the Variable Rate since it considers future tuition increases.
- Not offered for non-resident students or graduate or doctoral students.
- Location-specific fees are not covered by this plan and are subject to change with Board of Regents approval.
Variable Rate Plan
The Variable Rate only locks tuition rates in for one academic year at a time. The rates are subject to change in accordance to the Higher Education Price Index (HEPI) and other Board of Regents approved tuition rate changes.
- Most attractive for those students who plan to attend less than four years.
- Is lower than the Guaranteed Rate; however, the rate could potentially increase annually and could result in overall tuition charges that are higher than the tuition charges for the Guaranteed Rate.
- Location-specific fees are not covered by this plan and are subject to change with Board of Regents approval.
Additional Information
The guaranteed and variable rate plans do not affect undergraduates who are already enrolled, as they are already on an existing plan. The only exception will be students whose rate is expiring; in which case, the student will be moved to a new rate plan based on the terms of their guarantee.
